Its no secret that, if given the choice, an individual in need of assistance would much rather stay in their own home than to move to an institution or care facility. Whether it is a disability or simply aging that presents a problem, living independently is still a possibility. With a few modifications and the addition of some assistive devices, they now have the option of staying in their own home. As the physically challenged and aging population continues to grow, AHIAs goal with the accessible home was to bring awareness to home modifications and the life-changing impact that they can have. By showing a real life example of innovative design combined with the latest in medical device technology, the home was able to raise awareness of the possibilities for functional independent living options.
